A Little Something Different!

Hello everyone! I've been out and about blog hopping and I stumbled upon some makeup blogs. Being a diva, I love all things girly and of course makeup is right up there with the rest of the things I love! I found a few really cool blogs that I started following (always like to make new friends) and I even started viewing some youtube makeup tutorial videos and some on storing and collecting makeup. Trust me when I say I'm far from having a sizeable collection, but they were really interesting to watch. One thing I noticed though, was that all that I came across where either teenage girls or very young women in their 20s. I only saw one that had a picture at the end of her video that showed her and her daughter. Other than hers, I really couldn't relate. Don't get me wrong, because I got some really neat tips and enjoyed reading, but don't moms in their 30s and 40s enjoy dabbling in makeup and fashion??? I KNOW I DO!!! Soooo, what I would like to do is incorporate a little makeup and fashion into my blog, every now and then. If anything, it'll be fun and also an opportunity for me to showcase some of my Avon products that I sell. Yes, I'm an Avon Representative, if I've never mentioned it. I never wanted to run readers off, thinking that I'm trying to coerce them into buying something, so I don't mention it much. But with the economy the way it is, I do need to boost my sales!

Anyhoo, I'm going to showcase a cool product I found for nails. OPI has a Katy Perry Collection that includes a black top coat "Shatter" which is a deep asphalt black with a "shattered" texture. You put it over another color and it literally separates or "shatters" right before your eyes. It was also pretty hard to come by. Apparently, OPI isn't making a whole lot of them or they are slow about it, because every time Ulta receives a shipment (they were the only ones in my area that carry it), they only receive a few and run out the same day. I was finally successful on the third try! I called on a Friday (the 1st two times were on Sundays when they normally get shipments) just to see if they had any on the shelf and the manager told me they had actually gotten a small shipment that morning and had a few bottles left. I told her to hold one and I'd be there within the hour! LOL

OPI Black Shatter

Nina Ultra Pro Nail Enamel in Fuschia Rave (I don't recommend this polish, because it gets kinda clumpy.....you can't tell because the OPI covers it)

The after effect (sorry, it's a tad blurry)

I love the way it turned out!

If you can't find it in your area, I found out that China Glaze also has a similar product. Theirs is called Crackle and comes in different colors. You can check them out on one of the blogs that I found (www.thepolishaholic.com). She gives a good review on each color and how the textures come out.

Well, hopefully you've enjoyed my findings! I did! (Hee Hee!)

Feminine Friday

Loving another Feminine Friday! Today I'm posting one of my favorite church outfits, that has shoes to match! This suit was one of many blessing from my pastor's lovely wife! Of course I snatched up the shoes (at Charlotte Russe) when I saw how perfectly they matched! Be sure to check out Valencia, our Feminine Friday founder over at Buildeth Her House.

The Greatest Parents!!!

Couldn't let the day end without remembering the two greatest people in my life! Today commemorates the homegoing of both my parents. My daddy, Elder Leon C. Smith and my momma, Missionary Barbara L. Smith went from labor to reward on the same day, seven years apart. It has been 12 years for Momma and 19 years for Daddy, but it still seems like just yesterday. I'm grateful to have so many great memories to pass along to my children. They were wonderful people of God, and I was blessed to have them in my life. I pray that I live my life as they both did......loving and pleasing God. They were the GREATEST!!!

Happy Valentines!

I hope everyone had a wonderful day! Mine was hectic, but I did most of what I had planned to do. Being that it's been so cold here lately, I hadn't ventured out into the frozen tundra of our garage to get any decorations until today. We went from 12 degrees near the end of last week, to 72 degrees today! So, since I was late I decided to just have a Valentine's dinner and give the kiddos some treats, since the school district decided they couldn't have parties. That meant braving WalMart and Kroger today (something I don't recommend) and snagging what was left. Never shop on Valentines Day, because the store is full desperate men grabbing plants and ready made floral arrangements, frantically looking for cards, etc. Not a pretty sight. My daughter and hubby went last night (under the guise of getting gas), so she was able to tell me what he said he wanted. Added to the drama of last minute gift buying, was searching for Davon's items for his Famous Texan project due today! Due to a misunderstanding of emails between two fourth grade teachers (yes, I have two fourth graders), I had to find items for him to use as props. Needless to say, ripping and running was an understatement! Well, I survived and had a good day. The kids and hubby were happy too, so that's what is most important! Ahh, the things we do for love!

Let me share some love with you!

My goodies from darling hubby

The roses are from hubby and the colorful flowers are from the kids.....so sweet!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

Peggy over at The Simple Woman's Daybook is the gracious host here. Join in any day of the week.

For Today...February 2, 2011

Outside my window... there is still ice on the ground and it's 14 degrees! Thank God for my Snuggie!

I am thinking...about all the projects that I need to tackle! Hope this allergy attack doesn't last long!

I am thankful for... being able to take care of my family. Don't know if it's God's will for me to work right now, but I'm thankful to be at home and available for drop offs and pick ups and all the errands in between!

From the kitchen...I made my menu for the week and have stuck to it! Yay! Being stuck in the house due to the ice, makes it easy to stick to my menu! LOL Tonight we are having chicken wraps with fruit cups.

I am wearing...my black pajamas, which I plan to stay in all day!

I am hoping...to do better at blogging. I hope to gain more followers, because I love meeting new friends!

I am hearing... My daughters fixing their lunch in the kitchen and laughing while doing so. Also, hearing the tv upstairs.

I am remembering...how cuddly my babies used to be. Now they're big and cuddly (sometimes). They grow up so fast!

I am praying...everybody to be safe and stay in if they can. The temperatures here in the DFW area aren't expected to rise until Friday. Also praying the kiddos go back to school tomorrow! LOL

Around the house... Kids enjoying their second snow day, playing games and watching tv.

On my mind... How good God is! He's an awesome God, who is worthy to be praised!

One of my favorite things... wrapping myself up in my Snuggie on our couch in our bedroom and watching my favorite shows!

A few plans for the rest of the week...waiting to see what the weather does, but I plan to clean up around the house as soon as I start to feel better.

Here are some picture thoughts I am sharing with you...

Snow Day!!!

Yes, it's been awhile and please forgive me for not getting on here sooner. I've had somewhat of a writer's block, but today's weather definitely gave me a something to post about! It is 18 degrees here in Fort Worth and we have snow! I went out last night trying to find thermal underwear (long johns) for the boys, in case they had to go to school, but they weren't necessary because school was cancelled. I have some of the boy's teachers on my Facebook page and they were posting around 10:00 last night that the district was calling them cancelling school. Our district hardly ever closes, so I knew it must not be a good weather outlook. Around 3:00 this morning I woke to sleet slamming up against the windows, which continued till about 7:00 this morning. The wind has died down a little, but it's still blowing hard enough for me to stay indoors! The boys had a brief playtime (around 12 minutes, lol) in the snow, but quickly came back in! Today will definitely be an indoor, hot chocolate kind of day!

About to head out into the frozen tundra! LOL

He missed the group shot, because he didn't have on the right shoes!
